Visions for solo clarinet (2015)

Instrumentation:

Clarinet

Duration: ca. 4’

About the piece:

Written for the Bb clarinet, Visions is a solo piece describing two contrasting ideas one sees while drifting off into dreams. The first idea is a descending line in the clarinet's lowest octave followed by wide leaps upwards, having a rather slow tempo and a reflective mood. In contrast, the second is dance-like and jovial, characterised by the irregular meters. The piece is developed using short motifs introduced at the start of each section, and I used these motifs to construct the musical material, exploring its rhythms and intervallic relationships. Each section is also mostly based on a different scale that I constructed.
